Hello! I’m Sarah Ashley.
I’m a journalist covering a range of topics, but you’ll find most of my work is about pets or infertility. Since 2017, I’ve covered dogs, cats and all the gear that keeps them happy and healthy. My cats, Foxy and Jacques, got me through the emotional hell that is infertility treatment, which became my second area of focus in 2022. I’m incredibly lucky that science and IVF helped bring my daughter into the world and I’ve dedicated myself to making that process easier on anyone going through it.
I spent 15 years performing and writing comedy before switching gears to journalism. I draw on my comedic background to tackle tough subjects. There’s nothing inherently funny about infertility, but I’ve found that humor makes awful journeys easier to navigate. It also helps patients take back some of their power in an otherwise vulnerable situation.
A Minnesota native, I earned my BFA in Theater at the University of Michigan and a Certificate in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the University of Chicago. I’m currently working towards my masters in journalism through New York University.
